![]() ![]() If it doesn’t or it selects the wrong one, we are looking for SporeApp.exe, which should be inside Sporebin (Or SporebinEP1 for Galactic Adventures).Īnd thats it! If you need to change the EXE location this is under Advanced, ALSO if you want a pretty Spore app icon I created one here b560764d62104663e0fdb7f5793677ea_1618626465945.icns, you just download, then open the advanced section, and drag and drop the icon into the icon well, or browse for it. If the installer asks to launch the game after installing, don’t do that for now, just exit, and WineSkin SHOULD detect the game launcher EXE. Steam will be a bit more involved since once you have steam installed you can do anything you want not just Spore (assuming the game is compatible enough with Wine), but click Install Software, then Choose Setup Executable, And select your install EXE/MSI, Wine should start the Windows install executable, and just leave settings to default (C:\ drive is actually located inside the app we are using, all self contained) Now the install process will be different depending on what version of Spore you have, Steam, GoG, Retail disc, etc. ![]() You can really get into the nitty gritty with this under the “Advanced” button, but for Spore, it is a simple “Install Software” and if things don’t show up quite right you cant change some of the simple settings in “Set Screen Options” When it’s done you can click “View wrapper in Finder” to see where the new wrapper app is.ĭouble click the new app to open the Wineskin configuration tool. This may take a while and a dialog box for some additional downloads may appear, just accept them. Now you will have a dialog box with the Installed engines, if none are installed you will want to click the button, and install the most recent 64bit engine from the dropdown menu, (WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.2-2 at the time of this writing), click download and install.Īfter you have an engine installed you can click “Create New Blank Wrapper”, give your new app a name such as “Spore”, then click OK. Right clicking and then clicking Open will allow you to click “Open on that dialog box to open the app. This contains the Wineskin Winery app, move this to the Applications folder if you wish, then in order to open you MUST right click on the app, then click Open, otherwise macOS will yell at you that “Wineskin Winery” cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified. You’ll want to look for “Assets” under the most recent release, which at the time of this writing is 1.8.4 or 1.8.4.2 (pre-release).Ĭlick and download the file, and then if it doesn’t automatically unzip, double click it to do so. Under the WineskinServer Github project, go to Releases. (Wine is open source)ĮDIT: here's some QUICK instructions I typed up. IDK if I should try making a video tutorial or just text post, but if anyone is interested and doesn't know how to get it working let me know.Īnother MUCH easier option is to use Crossover for Mac, however that does cost money, this option is free. It may be a bit technical, but if anyone has issues I can try to make a tutorial and post it (I made my app a while ago so I'd have to re-create it). ![]() I have Spore running great on my new M1 Mac mini, just using default settings for everything and installing Spore inside the WineSkin app it makes. SO if you have a copy of Spore for Windows, either through Steam, GoG, Retail Disc, etc, you can basically re-encapsulate the game in a new 64-bit container and it'll run! Maxis did their encapsulation so long ago so its still 32-bit. They used a version of Wine called Cider, but the reason you can't just run Spore on a modern Mac now is 32-bit executables are no longer compatible with macOS, and only 64-bit can run. WineskinServer allows you to basically recreate the way that Maxis ported Spore over to Mac many moons ago. FYI for anyone who has a Mac that wants to play Spore again.
